Every year around the holidays I try to do some sort of art related project to gift that's different than what is normal for me. Some sort of craft that doesn't involve painting usually. I've been wanting to try my hand at wood burning for quite some time now and this year was the perfect opportunity.
After a lot of trial and error on test pieces and seeing what worked best, I learned that curves aren't so wood-burning friendly and stuck with lots of fun geometric patterns, which happen to be my favorite. (I also learned the hard way that you need to be very careful that what you're burning doesn't have any sort of coating on it or you'll be stuck with a nasty smelling chemical room for way too many hours....)
I'm so happy with how these came out. You can definitely tell which ones I did after lots of practice, the details got smaller and smaller as I found better was to do everything. They were tons of fun and I think I'll continue to woodburn occasionally, it was loads of fun (& smelled so good, like a campfire in my room).
Happy holidays once again, and it's still not too late to get a belated holiday mailer! Just shoot an email to hello@beccacahan.com with your address! -b
P.S. I put up the new pieces on Society6 as prints, cases, mugs, pillows, etc! Go get 'em!
