Out & About: lucy light forest

In the spirit of all the Christmas lights up all around Boston, I wanted to write a post about the beautiful lights I experienced a few months ago.

Becca Cahan Lucy Light Forest

On October 13th I had the pleasure of going to the Lucy Light forest on the esplanade in Boston.

The Lucy Light Forest is an interactive light and sound experience created to celebrate movement and the women who love it. The forest is a bit larger than a football field and consists of more than 10,000 solar powered LED lights. Amber hues of light and complementary tones of sound are activated by movement as people pass through the forest. (source)

I sadly didn't get to fully experience the Light Forest since I didn't find out about it until the last night, but the people from Lucy Activewear held assorted fitness classes for free held by local fitness instructors. It really was a magical experience, and one of the favorite events I've ever attended in Boston.

After posting some pictures on instagram, the kind people at Lucy reached out to me and offered to send me something. When I came back from visiting Baltimore over Thanksgiving I opened up the BEST package!

I am so in love with all my activewear and it certainly has inspired me to get back into exercising more. I've been meaning to pick up yoga again and I'm taking this as my inspiration. All the clothes are insanely comfortable and I'd wear the pants every day if that was socially acceptable.

Make sure to follow Lucy on facebook so you don't miss out on their next installation. I'm hopeful that the light forest will be back next year so I can really have a chance to enjoy it!

Thanks again to the generous people at Lucy!

Don't forget, there's still a few days to get your holiday orders in from the shop! -b

An Overdue Update: target & society6

November 16, 2013 Becca Cahan Illustration

I guess I'm doomed to be a bad blogger. One day I'll get the hang of this and get in the habit of keeping this space updated. Until then, I'll just keep posting overdue updates. In the mean time, be sure to follow me on instagram, where I am constantly posting and you can see sneak peaks of paintings I'm working on.

I've been up to a lot since graduation. This most exciting thing other than having so much freedom to create new pieces would be seeing my pieces (one, two, three) for sale in Target, which just so happens to be my favorite store ever and an absolute dream come true. Keeping this a secret for so many months was killing me so I couldn't wait to share this with everyone starting in July.

It has been so gratifying being able to see all my hard work physically in front of me. The pieces shown above, along with two others became available in stores at the beginning of July and it has been fun spotting them around when I go to different targets. These pieces were available nationwide.

Beginning last month, the pieces to the left began selling in select target stores nationwide. I was lucky enough to have one of these locations close to where I live and I just love how they printed the large piece on birch and matched it to the birch frames of the companion pieces!

I worked on these pieces for Target with Oopsy Daisy, where I have some pieces for sale on canvas, as framed prints, or wall decals.

I am also very excited to announce my Society6 shop that I opened this week! Be sure to snag these soon if you like them! Many of these pieces will only be available for a short time in my shop! Most pieces I listed in my shop are new to my portfolio and have been created over the past three months.

I wanted to open this shop in time for the holidays, and I hope you'll be able to find some goodies to treat yourself or your family and friends. Most prints are available as prints, canvas prints, framed prints, mugs, pillows, phone cases, and some shirts/sweatshirts/tank tops.

Be sure to use this promo link up until Sunday November 17th in order to receive free shipping on all orders (even international!).

happy shopping & happy holiday season! -b

Out & About: nss 2013

A week before I graduated from Massart in May, I took a trip down to New York with three of my friends to walk the National Stationary Show at the Javits Center. I was not prepared for just how huge and awesomely overwhelming the whole shindig was. Check out some of the booths below (excuse the quality of the iphone pictures!)

Firs things first: can we talk about how much I loved all the teal/turquoise/blue, rustic wood, and metallics that were happening all across NSS this year?! And how amazingly put together the booths were in general? It was like going into hundreds of little perfectly thought out storefronts. I couldn't have asked for a more positive experience than what I got after two days of walking the show. It was absolutely amazing to meet the designers and see all of the brilliant paper products in person that I have only ever oggled at online. As you can see to the left, I came back from NSS with a whole lot of paper swag. Granted, the picture is me and two of my friends piles, but still. That's a whole lot of beautiful paper-from business cards to postcards to fun little giveaways and the adorable scavenger hunt bingo pieces we got to collect. Walking down the (overwhelming &) beautiful rows at NSS, all I could think was that one day I could only hope to be a part of NSS as a designer. I guess we'll see how the years play out, but for now I'll just keep pinning the booths and the beautiful paper goods on my pinterest boards. I came home from New York completely exhausted but filled with new ideas for the future and enough inspiration to tide me over until next year, when I will inevitably find a way to go once again to NSS.

I also can't talk about my amazing trip to New York without talking about my INCREDIBLE hotel! My friends and I stayed at the Renaissance hotel right in Times Square. The top picture is the view from breakfast, and the one others are the view from our room and the street. Talk about incredible, yeah? The trip overall was extremely wonderful between visiting NSS, perusing the Surtex licensing show, exploring Brooklyn for the very first time, buying bunches of succulants to bring home, walking around Chelsea Market, eating amazing food & dessert (including ridiculously delicious Crif Dogs hot dogs-I never thought I would say hot dogs were ridiculously delicious), exploring New York, and just generally being inspired with three really great friends just a few days before we would enter the "real world".

Here's to more blogging! -b

An Overdue Update: i graduated college!

July 16, 2013 Becca Cahan Illustration
top blue.jpg

I'm going to write it here so it has to happen: I will blog more.

I've even taken specific photos on purpose just for the sake of blogging.  And I haven't done it. But those photos still exist and belated posts are better than nonexistent ones. So here I am, and I've had so many blog worthy moments in the past few months that I will be blogging this week to catch up.

fambam.jpg

First things first: I graduated college! I'll miss the heck out of Massart and all the amazing things it brought to my life, but I am so  excited about being a college graduate and getting started in the big world. It poured up all morning until we all walked out to our seats, so it was a bit crazy. We almost weren't allowed to walk due to the rain but we obviously protested until they let us.

I found my first 4 leaf clover a week before I graduated at my boyfriend Tom's graduation. That was a good start to the end.

Since I graduated, I went to Israel, went to NYC for the National Stationary Show & Surtex, have had my artwork begin selling at Target, turned 22, chopped off about 5 inches of hair, had a 5 year anniversary with my boyfriend Tom, and so many more little exciting moments. I can't wait to share them all.

Here's a start to something I will be better at. -b
